Wow

This past weekend, Kurt and I finally got to have the wedding we always dreamed about. It was complete with an intimate ceremony, lots of yummy food, three wonderful cakes, and all of our closest friends and family members from literally all over the country. We have been so humbled by the outpouring of love, prayers and support we've received over the past few years; but this weekend, it was overwhelming. Truly, our cups overflow!!! I can't wait to share pictures of everything - our amazingly talented 15-year-old photographer (yes, you read that right, she's only 15!!), Elizabeth Ann, took some fabulous pictures. Here is a quick sneak peak:

But this blog post today is about something else. After the bliss of Sunday's wedding, we experienced fear like no other on Monday. After a completely unfortunate accident (and yes, it truly was an accident...absolutely no one is to blame!!!), we spent all day in the Emergency Room at Williamson Medical Center with Knox. He ingested the smallest amount of peanut butter, and his body had a severe allergic reaction to it. Within 30 minutes, his body was red, puffy, swollen and hot all over. The biggest fear was what we COULDN'T see on the inside of his body - was the same thing that was happening on the outside of his body going to affect his breathing and respiratory system? We are thankful for the Lord's favor that my sister (Dr. Jennifer Smith) was in town. She threw us in the car and immediately took us to the ER. Knox received attention right away, and they took great care of him. He threw up his first dose of benadryl all over me (truly awful); but the shots of benadryl and steroids seemed to do the magic trick. We prayed and prayed and prayed for healing, and God did not fail. We are THANKFUL. But, lesson learned: children under the age of 2 really should not have peanut butter! Take note, moms-to-be! I hope no one ever has to experience that fear because it pretty much sucked!!

Waiting for medicine to take affect:

On the way home:

We are finally back safely in Birmingham. Kurt starts practice today, and I go right back to classes. No "honeymoon" for us...yet. We hope to take one soon! I'll blog more this week with more pictures from our actual wedding day. Now the real question will be: which anniversary do we celebrate? March 25th when we got married at the court house? Or September 5th when we actually got to have a wedding? What do y'all think? I'm thinking BOTH... ;)

SO SORRY ABOUT LITTLE KNOX! I hate that it happened to you guys, but thanks so much for writing about it. I never knew pb could do such damage, even though I know they're not supposed to have it yet. A good reminder to keep it away for another year or so!!

  5. Jill, you made such a beautiful bride! Congrats on finally having the wedding of your dreams! I hate to hear about the scare with sweet Knox! That had to be so overwhelmingly frightening! And I would have to agree, celebrating BOTH anniversaries sounds good. :)

  7. I guess if I had read the blog sooner, I would have know. Gosh, I am so sorry about Knox!!! That is just so pitiful...what a poor little swollen face. Still gorgeous though! :) And so were you! The dress and hair and everything was just perfect. I'm so proud of you! And yes, you should celebrate both, but the earlier one is the one that says how long it's been. Love you!
